Nvidia Geforce 9800 Gets a Mention

It wasn’t all that long ago that everyone was talking about how fast the Geforce 8800GTX was. Well, now we have another graphics card to talk about, the Geforce 9800. Although the graphics card isn’t officially announced there have been some talk going on about it such as here and here.

There is not a whole lot of information about it on the internet but here is what I have been able to find out about it.

At a Displayport event, Nvidia left earlier then expected. This might have been the unveiling of the Geforce 9800 sources theInquirer have talked to said that things weren’t going smoothly. This has been taken to mean that the 9800 wasn’t running as well as they were expecting it to.

The 9800 is expected to be unbelievably quiet. Even quieter then the 8800GTX.

Like I said, not much to talk about but still something to be anticipating over the coming months.

Apple, Apple, Apple, Event Today

Alright I’m sure many of you are extremely bored of all the Apple news that have been becoming more and more prominent in the technology news space. But, it has to be done, especially since Apple is one of the more successful tech companies and are increasing in popularity faster then you can say Apple rumor.

So let’s get right to it. I mentioned yesterday that Apple is having a special event to day at it will happen 10am PDT. Well last night and this morning tons of people were speculating and a few credible rumors showed up online.

New iMacs with new pricing. Apple will drop the 17″ model and sell just three models at $1199, $1499 and $1799. Most likely two 20″ models and a single 24″.

Another Mac Mini rev. Probably updating them with Core 2 Duo chips.

Spreadsheet addition to iWork for iWork’08. Although it may not be released today but might not be available until Leopard is officially available, Apple may talk about iWork’08, which has not yet been talked about by Apple.

.Mac Update. .mac has a scheduled maintenance from 10am to 12pm this morning which happens to be the exact time the event is supposed to be held today.

So there you have it, I will post again after the event to let you all know what happened and if it is interesting enough I will talk about it a little bit more in depth tomorrow.

Apple Event Tomorrow

There is an Apple event tomorrow that will be talking about Macs in Apple HQ up there in Cupertino.

I figured I would throw out some speculation and let you all know what I think will end up happening at this event. I don’t have any inside information and I haven’t been talking to any drunken Apple employees at a bar (mostly because I live approximately 3,000 miles away). However since I am a blogger and I pay attention to all the Apple news I feel it is my duty to come up with some Apple rumors about what will happen tomorrow.

  1. Updated Mac Mini with similar specs to the the MacBook.
  2. Updated iMac with a complete redesign and similar specs to the MacBook Pro, discontinued 17″ model.
  3. Demo of Leopard showing off some new features.

Now you can take these with a grain of salt because I made them up however it is still possible that I am some type of oracle and can predict the future. There is absolutely zero proof that I am an oracle however stranger things have happened (I would give an example but at this time I can’t think of one).

Apple’s New Keyboard

So these pictures are floating around the internet of what supposed to be the new Apple keyboard. I have to say that they look extremely convincing and I don’t have any reason to doubt that they are real. I also am very excited about it because it is an amazing keyboard and I think it is truly beautiful. I like the new layout and I think it was smart for Apple to remove the Apple logo from the command key because I know too many people that call it the “Apple key” and that just isn’t right.

Well anyway here is a picture of it:

Is this the new iMac keyboard? – Engadget

Strangely enough Apple is having an event in Cupertino on August 7th, the event will only bring news about new Macs and not anything to do with iPods or iPhones. My prediction is we will see new iMacs with this redesigned keyboard and I am hoping for an update to the Mac Mini although I doubt it will happen. The Mac Mini has been ignored for quite some time and it is more likely that the Mac Mini be discontinued or replaced by another product.

AMD to Luanch 6400+ Soon

AMD will soon be launching a new high end processor, the Athlon 64 X2 6400+. This will most likely just be a filler until AMD can get Phenom out. Phenom is due this year but will probably be in short supply until the beginning of next year.

AMD’s current high-end processor the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ cannot keep up with Intel’s high-end offering so the 6400+ will try and cover the gap.

The Athlon 64 X2 6400+ will be clocked at 3.2GHz with 2MB of L2 cache with pricing between $225 and $250. the 6400+ will perform about 10-15% slower then Intel’s E6850.

I hope that AMD can fill the gap even more when the Phenom lineup of processors is released but I’m concerned that Intel has too far of a lead on AMD.

6Gen iPod Rumors, Videos – Update (Videos Available)

Mac Rumors has posted a few videos of what seems to be the 6th generation iPod’s user interface. I don’t know whether or not these are real or if they are just faked but they look extremely convincing.

I would guess that if these are real the iPod is running OSX since Steve Jobs has hinted at OSX iPods before, and the iPod is using the familiar click-wheel style interface instead of the iPhone’s touchscreen interface. The lack of touchscreen functionality makes me a little sad and if that is the case I will most likely wait until the 7gen iPod before I upgrade (If I ever upgrade at all seeing as I know have an iPhone).

Anyway lack of touchscreen aside the user interface looks gorgeous and I think I really like the split-screen interface elements.

I hope to be able to get them on YouTube sometime so that you can see them here but until then head over here to MacRumors post.

Update: Well MacRumors post has been taken down, Apple legal got a hold of it and had it taken down, well I had downloaded them before they were taken down so I’ll link to them here. If Apple wants me to take them down that is fine all they have to do is email me at mike@cybersurge.org and I’ll take them down immediately. (I personally don’t think that there is any reason for Apple to want this taken down, it only affirms that fact that these are probably real)

These are not confirmed by Tivo so I cannot guarantee their validity.

The model number will be TCD652160
integrated MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoders, a dual MPEG-2 encoder, 2 Samsung based tuners, 128MB DDR Ram, 160GB SATA HDD, no THX, Standard Tivo Remote, all for the low price of $299.

It will be able to record up to 20 hours of HD and up to 180 hours of SD.

Now I did show a picture of the Tivo Series 3 Lite a while back but apparently pictures of the unit have even been found on Amazons website.

All this info was found on the Tivo Community Forums. [via Engadget]

Rumors of Brushed Metal iMac

Think Secret is saying that Apple may be releasing new iMacs at WWDC or very shortly afterward. The new iMacs will have a brushed metal casing and use the Santa Rosa chipset. Apple will also drop the 17″ version and lower the prices of the 20″ and 24″ models.

AppleInsider however says that it is unlikely for them to release it then because availability wouldn’t be until later this year. Think Secret is saying that the iMacs will be marketed as more of a high end computer for professional use.

This is great, I’ve been waiting for new iMacs because I don’t want to end up with an older model. I actually would say that this could be very true but I think that Apple has too much stuff going on right now and this could be good or could be spreading the company too thin.

Check out AppleInsider and Think Secret and decide what you want to believe.
