Acer to Acquire Gateway?

DigiTimes this morning is reporting that Acer may be acquiring Gateway. The acquisition will be for about $710 million. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of this year and was actually unanimously agreed upon by the board members of both companies.

I think this is a pretty interesting acquisition. I think it is a good fit and is good for Gateway. I’m not sure how good it is for Acer though, I’m not exactly what Acer is really benefiting from this. Aside from the fact that it is an instant way of strengthening there role in the US market I think Acer has been steadily doing this by themselves for years now.

This is something that all of us should be paying attention. This acquisition would give Acer 10.8% of the PC market, that isn’t something that anyone should ignore.

Barebones Alienware PCs

A few days ago Alienware announced that you would be able to buy a barebones Alienware PC for $400 to make your own Alienware PC.

This offer will be for a limited time only but for the $400 you will get the classic P2 Alienware chassis in either silver or black, complete with an electric-blue lighting kit.

This is the most likely the most expensive barebones kit on the market and I don’t really understand why anyone would want one. If you know enough about computers to be able to build your own from a barebones kit, you should know that $400 is a little expensive for what you are getting. My suggestion is to just go with your own case, motherboard, etc. and be a lot happier.

1996 Mac Vs PC

Scootinger’s Blog has a post with a picture of a Mac user vs. PC user comparison from the September 1996 issue of MacAddict. It looks pretty similar to the I’m a Mac, I’m a PC ads of today.

“Get a PC” Ads

TechEBlog has a bunch of videos from Youtube that are spoofs on Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads. They are pretty good and made me laugh. I like the get a mac ads but I don’t like the recent one that talks about Windows Vista, I am running Vista and it runs just fine, it doesn’t bother you as much as they make it seem, anyway check out the videos over at TechEBlog.
