Flash in the iPhone

Mossberg recently wrote an article about frequently asked questions about the iPhone. One of the questions mentioned the ability for the iPhone to play flash video. Mossberg said:

“Apple says it plans to add that plug-in through an early software update, which I am guessing will occur within the next couple of months.”

This is great news. I figured that Apple would add flash support eventually and if they didn’t, hackers would.

Something I noticed in the Settings of Safari on the iPhone is the ability to run Safari without plugins, currently there isn’t any plugins for Safari on the iPhone. I’m wondering what the situation will be about Safari plugins. Who will be able to develop Safari plugins, just Apple, anyone, or anyone that Apple lets do so. I think it would be great for Google to add a Google Gears plugin to the iPhone. I could read my feeds on my phone without even having service. Of course as mentioned above Adobe could create a flash plugin. The possibilities are practically endless.

I could see this becoming as wonderful as the extensions are in Firefox, changing, fixing, or adding functionality to an otherwise simple browser.
