New MacBook Pros

Apple has released new MacBook Pros with LED-backlit displays and Geforce 8600M GT 128MB and 256MB graphics cards. They also have the new Santa Rosa chipsets allowing for up to 4GB of memory and the newer Core 2 Duos at 2.2GHz and 2.4GHz. The 17″ version has an optional 1920×1200 display

The new versions are being sold at the same price as the previous versions. They say that they are shipping in 1-3 business days so you can order yours today at the Apple Store here.

I didn’t think that they would update them today and was surprised when the store went down today but I am pleasantly surprised.

Discussion about the Palm Foleo

I completely agree with him I think that to many people use there laptop as a desktop. I don’t need all the power when I’m going most places, all I want is to be able to check my email, do a little writing, and maybe read some RSS feeds with Google Reader thats it why so many people need 17″ screens and so on is beyond me.

Palm’s New Laptop-like Device, The Palm Foleo

I know what most of you are thinking this device looks kind of cool but why would I ever want to buy one? Well I’ll tell you right now that I probably won’t ever buy one however if I had the extra money I would. Reason being: it is amazing.

The Palm Foleo is very similar to the Nokia N800 which I also think is a great device. The reason you would buy one is because a lot of your life is online. I personally spend a lot of my free time online (obviously). I don’t use a lot of desktop applications, I use Gmail, Google Reader, Twitter, Google Docs & Spreadsheets, etc. So most of the time I don’t want to have to get out a device with a lot of bloat if I just want to jump on wikipedia and look up something. I also don’t want to carry my hot running MacBook around the house when all I’m going to be doing is surfing Digg or writing some email.

Now I do understand that $599 is a little much for a device like this, its basically a Nokia N800 with a keyboard for $200 more. But I think that if they could find a way to drop the price $100-$200 it would be something that a whole lot more people would be looking at.

What I cannot find anywhere is whether or not this thing has Wifi. I would assume that it does however the only type of wireless systems that I can find anyone talking about is it wirelessly syncing to your Treo, that would most likely be done over Bluetooth. I’m going to assume however that it does have Wifi.

The device will not make it in the market. No one is going to want to buy it at that price. I don’t think it will last more than 6 months. The device just doesn’t have a large enough customer base for enough people to get behind it. Not to mention that fact that so money blogs are already saying that it is a useless device.

Just please, for me, check it out, it is really cool.

Matte Screen MacBook

I have a MacBook and I actually love the glossy screen but I do know that a lot of people out there hate the glossy screen and prefer a matte screen. One MacBook owner hated the glossy screen so much that he decided to put a new screen into his MacBook from a Sony notebook. The MacBook looks pretty good and it gets me in the mood to do some modification myself, I won’t do any because I don’t want to kill any of my computers, but I do want to.

Battery Notebooks Recall

Lenovo Recalling 205,000 Batteries

Lenovo is recalling 205,000 of its 9 cell batteries. The batteries were sold as replacement or optional batteries for ThinkPad R60, R60e, T60, T60p, Z60m, Z60m, Z61e, Z61m, and Z61p notebooks. The batteries with the part number FRU P/N 92P1131 are being recalled.

The batteries, made by Sanyo, could catch fire if hit hard in the corner like from a fall, the batteries could over heat causing the fire. Sanyo is defending the batteries saying “the problem resulted from strong external impact to the battery and was not a problem with the batteries themselves.”
